Your Forgotten Bricks Can Build a More Beautiful Village!

We are on a massive mission to transform the Bowling Club garden into a beautiful, indigenous green space—a gift to the entire community. To do it, we need materials, and our most pressing need is a surprisingly simple one: bricks for 350 meters of new paths!

Pile of old bricks

The Hidden Treasure in Your Yard

We know them well: those forgotten bricks tucked away in the corner of your garden. They're under a pile of old leaves, behind the garage, or maybe serving a temporary, lonely life holding down a tarp. Guess what? We need them!

This is your chance to clean up those dusty corners and help construct a lasting feature for the whole town. Every single brick you dig out is a step toward building our beautiful new walkways.

We need a lot of them—350 meters of paths requires a mountain of material! We are happy to take half-bricks, too, as long as the pieces aren't too small to handle.

Calling All Builders and Renovators

Do you know a builder? Are you planning a home renovation? We’re especially interested in bricks coming from projects where old paths are being lifted or walls are being knocked down.

If you know a local builder who might have some bricks that can be cleaned and re-purposed, please pass our appeal along!

How to Donate Your Bricks (It's Easy!)

While we wish we could drive around town collecting just a few bricks at a time, we simply don't have the manpower. But if you or your gardener can help, it makes a world of difference:

  1. Prep Your Car: Lay a piece of cardboard in the boot of your car to keep it clean.

  2. Load Up: Place your collected bricks inside.

  3. Drop-Off: Bring them to the Bowling Club during the week.

  4. Unload: Either ask for Eddie or one of the friendly Bowling Club staff members to assist with unloading, or simply drop the bricks neatly next to one of the garden paths, and we will move them later.

We Need SOLID Bricks: What to Look For

Since these bricks will be used for pathways and need to create a stable, hard-wearing surface, it's crucial that they are solid and clean.

1. Solid Construction is Essential

We cannot use bricks that have large holes, indentations, or gaps running through them, as these create ideal havens for weeds as the holes and indentations get filled with sand over time. The brick needs to be a solid mass of material.

The types we need to avoid are known as perforated and cored bricks.

  • Perforated Bricks: These have a series of holes (perforations) that go all the way through the brick.

  • Cored Bricks: Similar to perforated, these have holes running through them, usually to aid in the firing process.

2. Clean of Cement and Plaster

This is a non-negotiable step: all bricks must be cleared of cement or plaster. We simply do not have the volunteer hours to chip hardened mortar off thousands of bricks.

If you can get your gardener or other staff to clean them first, you will be providing enormous help to the project.

By cleaning out those old bricks from your garage and removing the excess cement, you are directly helping to transform an entire corner of our village!

BRICK DONATION CHECKLIST

Please use this list when selecting bricks for donation:

  • Quantity: We need thousands! Don't hold back. We have 350 metres of paths to build.

  • Condition: Whole bricks and half-bricks are welcome, but no small rubble.

  • MUST BE SOLID: Bricks must be a solid mass of material.

    • NO Perforated Bricks (holes all the way through)

    • NO Cored Bricks (holes through the centre)

  • MUST BE CLEAN: Bricks must be completely free of cement and plaster.

  • Drop-Off: Bring them to the Bowling Club and ask staff for help, or leave them neatly near the paths.

  • Photo: Once you have dropped off your bricks, we would love to thank you. Please take a selfie with them and email it to us or post it on our Facebook or Instagram.

We know this is a specific and somewhat unusual request, and we deeply appreciate your effort. Thank you in advance for helping us clean up your corners while simultaneously laying the foundation for 350 meters of beautiful new pathways for our community.
